InDro Robotics and Calian collaborate to enable lightweight, bulletproof solutions for the ROS 2 platform

(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, September 28, 2023).

Autonomous mobility solutions often require highly accurate position and heading information to achieve mission objectives. This requires GNSS antennas and receivers that can deliver a high level of precision, integrated into a system design either discretely or as an “out of the box” complete solution that can be accessed over a digital interface such as USB or RS-232. Calian designs integrated solutions that combine its excellent GNSS antennas with world-class GNSS receivers. Such integration mitigates many potential system impairments that can reduce GNSS precision, therefore relieving system designers of the burden of a critical and common failure mode (see https://tallysman.com/technology/gnss-smart-antennas). With this integration, the hardware complexity is greatly reduced, but there is still the issue of configuring the complex receiver chips to optimize performance according to application criteria (type of robot, dynamic movement model, etc.) and integrating the resulting position and heading information into the system’s operational software.

InDro Robotics is a leader in the Robot Operating System 2 (ROS™2) open-source community, a set of tools and libraries that developers can use to accelerate the development of robotic applications without starting from scratch.  InDro Robotics and Calian are collaborating to deliver ROS2 drivers for Calian’s Augmented Smart GNSS Antennas, bringing “plug and play” high precision location and heading to the robotics market.  Calian and InDro Robotics demonstrated InDro Robotics’ GO1 robot equipped with Calian TW5794 Augmented Smart GNSS antennas to achieve precise location and heading at the TCExpo on Wednesday, September 27th, in at the Area X.O autonomous mobility research and development facility in Ottawa.
